Bih Joan Ndeh is a PhD student of Plant Pathology in the Department of Plant Sciences, Faculty of Science at the University of Bamenda, Cameroon. She has an MSc. in Applied Botany from the University of Bamenda in 2020. Her research is focused on the diversity and Phylogeny of Ganoderma species and its use in the control of Phytophthora colocasia in the Mezam division of the Northwest region of Cameroon. Joan is a member of several scientific organizations, including the British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP), Society for Conservation Biology (SCB), British Mycological Society (BMS), African Phytopathological Society (APS), Organization of Women for the Developing World (OWSD) and a cohort 2 alumni of SmartSciFrica.
Joan received funding from the British Society for Plant Pathology (BSPP) Covid-19 fund in 2022, an Idea Wild equipment grant for Conservation projects in 2022, and a British Society for Plant Pathology Junior Research fellowship grant to do part of her research at the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2023. Joan has won travel grants to attend conferences at the International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB2023) in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2023 and the 2nd International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation in the Congo basin in Kisangani in the DRC Congo (2023).
Joan is co-author of the article “Assessment of Leaf Spot Disease on Water Leaf (Talinum triangulare (Jacq.) Willd and in vitro effect of three medicinal plant extracts on the pathogen(s) in the Northwest Region of Cameroon” published in the African Journal of Agricultural Research. Joan has raised several students in the field of Biology as a secondary school teacher for over two decades, and she is passionate about raising so many female scientists.
